Finished quilts, new Pyrex, and the start of a new quilt

I've been busy! I finally finished the quilt I started back in March. I didn't think it'd take that long to do, but it took me 10 hours to piece the blocks (tutorial found here) and I don't know how long to finish up the rest of it. I really liked how this one turned out. I ended up sending it as a surprise to one of my running friends who was going to be in the hospital for hip surgery. She was so surprised and ended up taking it with her to the hospital. :) I love when my quilts are loved!

This quilt I made pretty quickly (about 2-3 weeks off and on) for one of my friends that I've known since 2nd grade. She picked out the design (found here) and sent me the fabric. I hope her little boys have fun with it. My niece thought it was fun to scoot around while I took pictures. :)

I found these two little fridgies the other day while at Savers. I love that I'm finding more Snowflake to add to my collection. I can't wait to have them all out during Christmas/winter.

This is my most current quilt project. My hubby keeps telling me that I keep making quilts for my friends and I haven't made one for him, so I'm making this Swoon quilt for him. Each block is about 24" squared. I'm hoping to have it be king size so he can use it on the bed. He loves fall colors so there are lots of oranges, yellows, reds, and browns in this quilt. I think it'll end up looking pretty cool when it's done. The only down side of this quilt is each block takes me about 2-3 hours to do including the cutting! I may have to make a couple baby quilts in between blocks so, I don't get burned out.

A quilt for baby #5

I had all the squares cut out for this quilt for a few months now, but they kept getting pushed to the side until last night. Honestly, I think the reason this quilt took forever was because the colors didn't look right to me when I laid them out for the first time. I got tired of looking at the squares begging to be sewn so I went with my original pattern and hoped for the best. I'm glad I stuck with it cause the more I look at it the more it grows on me. I got it all sewn together and bound in about 3 hours. I love baby quilts cause they go FAST. The back is a soft felt and I used a thicker batting. Baby #5 (still working on his name) will LOVE it.

We painted the bassinet a golden yellow and this quilt fits it PERFECTLY! I even made a sheet for the mattress (that I made too!!) using this tutorial from MADE.

A complete set and Our Best Bites

Yesterday while finding some jeans for my 6 yr old I found the 3 bigger bowls in this set. I knew I had the little bowl, so I had to complete the set. Plus, the big bowl is just the perfect size! I can't wait to mix up some delicious foods in it.

Today I went to the book signing for the new Our Best Bites cookbook. I just LOVE their food. We have yet to find a recipe we didn't like.

These ladies were just AWESOME! I went to a book signing for Pioneer Woman once and it was such a night and day difference. Not that the Pioneer Woman is not nice or anything, just this book signing was so organized and the ladies were so friendly and kind to everyone they met. I brought my 8 yr old daughter with me and they just talked to her like they've known her forever. They even had a room set aside for the kids to decorate cupcakes and color place mats. I just loved it!

Here are their two cookbooks. We use them ALL. THE. TIME. The stroganoff is my FAVORITE. Mmmm!!! I can't wait to make all the stuff in the new book. Tomorrow I'll be making the orange rolls. YES!

Two more signed cookbooks to add to my collection. :) If you haven't gotten their cookbooks, GO AND GET THEM!! Check out their blog too... It's FULL of awesome recipes.

Found it in Fresno

We went on a trip to Fresno the past weekend and I found this guy at a Goodwill out there for $3. I can see him being used for Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas. Ooh, it'd be perfect for nuts! I can't wait to use him.

A little hunting

A couple days ago a friend of ours was visiting Mississippi while on a business trip and decided to check out a antique store to check out if there was any Pyrex. He kept sending us picture after picture of all these amazing finds. He said it was an old 2 floor cotton house with no AC and there was Pyrex EVERYWHERE. We told him a couple that we wanted. I can't wait to get them! He said he ended up fighting 2 southern women for them. HAHA!

Of course his hunting made me want to find some, so I went for a little hunt. There was nothing at the first 2 stores, but I thought I'd check out the new Goodwill in town. I ended up finding these!!!

I found a complete 12 person set of tea cups and plates, but decided to only take 8 of them. They're all in REALLY good condition. I can't wait for the weather to get cold so we can have a hot cocoa party!

Quick find

I stopped by Savers while running errands and found this guy. It was another pattern (Town and Country) I don't have. I love that I'm finding all these different patterns! Today I discovered that divided dishes like this one are perfect for when you're frying things and need a bowl for the egg mixture and one for the flour mixture. We made fried green tomatoes today and they were AMAZING!!! I'm so glad I had Pyrex to use for it. :)

Dangerous

Oooh, this is dangerous. Having a Savers less than 5 minutes from my house is not good for my collecting habit.

I found these two little pretties today. I was excited cause they were two that I didn't have and they were only $1.99 each.

I have a blue with white snowflake one like this. I'm excited to have one like this. It'll be fun to have out come Christmas time. :)

I did end up leaving 3 bowls that I already had, so, go me! :)

A few little finds.

We went for a short Pyrex hunt today just to get out of the house. We went to a new Savers that was set up just down the road from us. I'm not always a fan of Savers just because they tend to be over priced, but I thought I'd look anyway.

I found a few good things...

I was in need of a new 1 cup measuring cup. I got an Anchor Hocking measuring cup set a year ago and all of the markings have come off of it. How are you supposed to measure things when there's no measurements?! Now I know why you choose Pyrex over Anchor Hocking! I was excited to spot a nice Pyrex measuring cup today. It was just what I needed!

Another thing about Savers... They put these HUGE price tags in random spots and its a PAIN to get them off. After peeling off as much as I could, I used some hot soapy water and a sponge and they came off pretty easy.

I saw this little gravy boat first and was debating on getting him just because of the $4 price tag, but he was too cute to pass up. He'll go well with the bowls I have of the Autumn Harvest pattern.

I looked through a couple other sections before finding this baby! I love the Friendship pattern and I can NEVER find it anywhere. It's also one of the only Pyrex I have with red on it. I wish I could find more red.
Not too bad for a 10 minute trip to the store! :)

Good deal!

We were close to a DI earlier today and my hubby says, "Run in and see if there's anything." I wasn't expecting to find anything and I didn't see anything at first until I spotted the little fridge dish, at the bottom, hiding behind some other stuff. Then I thought I'd check out the cups "just in case" and I saw the Old Town cups. I thought about only getting one, but then I thought of my Grandma Cook and thought they'd be a great addition to the collection. The thing that cracks me up about those cups is 4 out of the 5 say Pyrex on the bottom and ONE says Corning.  I also spotted ONE Ribbon Bouquet mug. I thought it looked a little different than normal Pyrex, but sure enough it says Pyrex on the bottom. I also found two small green lined plates. I don't know what pattern or what they are, but they say Pyrex. I also found this one dish. It's Corning, and I don't know the pattern, but I had to get it. :)

The best part... It all cost me $5.50!! :) I LOVE finding good deals!

Hot Springs, Montana Finds

I saw this bowl at the little "thrift" shop in Hot Springs, Montana while visiting my Grandma. It's such a little town I didn't think I could find anything. I saw this bowl at the bottom back of a shelf and I kept going back and forth on it. It didn't look like it was in the best condition and I'm trying to be more selective in my finds, so I left it behind.

I later told my hubby about it and while he was picking up some comics he decided to grab this bowl too. He told me he's seen me purchase bowls that were in worse condition and that this one he liked cause it made him think of our dads being in the military and all. He knew I could clean it up with some elbow grease.

Sure enough, it cleaned up nice and pretty. Not many scratches to it. This bowl is actually pretty rare it seems. I'm glad he got it anyway.
It even has this neat little tab on the bottom of the bowl.

I saw these yellow bowls. $30 is a lot more than I normally pay for Pyrex, but they were all in good condition and I couldn't leave the store empty handed so I picked them up. Plus, I really like the yellow.
This little bowl was also close to the yellow bowls at the shop. The store owner gave it to me for free! :) I love when that happens! We even found a bowl like this in the back corner of a HIGH shelf at my Grandma's house. Everyone kept telling me to ask her for it, but I was nervous and missed the opportunity.

San Antonio Find

My in-laws are visiting from San Antonio and they brought this little find with them for my birthday!

I don't have any black Pyrex so this little treasure was really cool. My first thought was how awesome it'll look when we have a Halloween party. The orange and black is just perfect. :)

Here's some info on it. My in-laws were so excited to have found a rare Pyrex. Not bad for never having shopped for Pyrex before. :)

It's Pyrex season!!!

FINALLY!!! It's Pyrex season! I've searched all winter to find some and nothing has come up until now.

We went and looked at a couple stores and I found this little gravy boat. It made me think of my 96 yr old grandma so, I HAD to get it. :)
Then we stopped at a store on the way home and found a mint yellow refrigerator dish. Sometimes I wish I could find the lids too, but I'm running out of storage space and it's easier to stack without lids.
Today I found this blue one. The lid was FILTHY! I thought I'd try all the tricks to get it clean.

The dish washed up perfect... The lid... it's still soaking. I scrubbed it with barkeeper's friend and tried a Mr. Clean sponge with no luck.
Then I found this cute little 1.5 pt bowl. It's such a cute pattern. I think I'll use it for cereal tomorrow. :)
Here's to a fruitful Pyrex season!!

New Finds!!

Finally! I found some Pyrex!!

I went to DI today looking for a tshirt and found this beauty...
A 2.5qt bowl! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pattern. I was so excited I just had to snatch it up.
There was also this little dish. I thought it was a solid white until I went to wash it and discovered it used to be yellow. :( Why do all the good colors have to be ruined? Oh well, it's still pretty and I will use it for sure.

Bowtie Quilt

Last night I remembered that I had a baby shower to go to on Friday. I didn't feel like hauling 4 kids to the store to find a gift, so I figured I'd throw together a simple quilt this morning.

It took me about 5 hours start to finish. I'm sure I could have gotten it done a little faster than that, but I had to take care of the kiddos while I made it.

The idea from this quilt came from here. She has some really good quilts.

I ended up using some left over batting that I had and I am LOVING the feel of this blanket. It has a good weight to it, but it's still soft. I wouldn't mind a queen size quilt like this one.

Pyrex and quilting...

Since I haven't found much Pyrex lately I thought I'd post a pic of Pyrex I already had.
It's been holding all the squares I've been quilting.
I'm thinking I'll turn it into a queen size quilt.

So, until more Pyrex shows up, I'll probably end up posting a lot of the sewing projects I've been doing.

The blues...

I'm switching out my winter blues for my greens and yellows for St. Patty's Day. :)

Pyrex right now is REALLY few and far between. :( I've been looking all over for some red Pyrex, but I've found nothing. There's been a few bowls that USED to be red... I hate finding those. Maybe when everyone starts spring cleaning I'll find some better finds.

Long time coming...

It's been a while since I went out to find Pyrex, so today we went for a little hunt. We went to the local Value Village and found this set of Old Orchard Cinderella bowls. I wasn't quite sure if I really wanted to get them, but they were mint, so I snatched them up. Maybe I'll sell them on eBay or something.
This little green casserole. It was too cute to pass up.
This one wasn't the prettiest green, but it was mint and they were only asking $1 for it. Maybe I can store some of my sewing supplies in it.
There they are! Not bad for only hitting up 2 stores. I really REALLY really wish I could find some red Pyrex though. Why does that have to be so hard to find?!
These two bowls I found at DI. I'm LOVING the yellow. I think it's my new favorite bowl. It had a bunch of white spots all over it and I thought it was chipped paint, until I looked at it in the light. I was able to get all the white specks off! Yay!
